Aaron's Art

My DS the eldest is a senior in Studio Art at the University of Maine Orono (UMO).  It is the end of the semester, and projects are due.  This is one of the rare ones I get to see in progress and completed.... the assignment was to do a painting in the Cubism style.  Dsc01121Cubism was developed between about 1908 and 1912 in a collaboration between George Braque and Pablo Picasso. Their main influences are said to have been Tribal Art (although Braque later disputed this) and the work of Cezanne.  The key concept underlying Cubism is that the essence of an object can only be captured by showing it from multiple points of view simultaneously.

And The Reason Santa Can Knit...

And this is the reasonViolin_recital_dec_05_2 the Christmas stocking had a chance to grow so much Saturday.  There was the rehearsal for the recital, followed by the riding lesson, followed by the recital.  All that waiting allowed for a lot of knitting progress!  Violin_recital_dec_05

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

If you live in Down East Maine, be afraid, very afraid.  My daughter cub has just gotten her learner's permit.  She will have access to a 1994 Toyota 4Runner with 130,000 miles that I bought new in 1994 (hey, the price is right - it's been paid for since 1996, and only has to carry liability insurance on it & it has never been in an accident).  She is the third of my children to learn to drive a standard shift on this car.  With Maine's recent progressive driving licenses, she has to have a permit for six months before taking her license, which gets us through most of the snow season this winter.  For the first six months after getting her license, she can only drive herself or family members - no driving friends around.  Even with her permit, she can only drive with someone over 18 who has been licensed for at least two years....

Barns

  • East Holden, Maine barn studio
A series of barn photos I've taken or been sent. Barns are magical to me - they have so much character, and provide so much for the animals and farmers.

Pre-blog FOs

  • Caleb's Icelandic
These are photos of finished objects, knit pre-blog. Some of these date back to the early 1980's, not having knit since my mother taught me to knit a scarf at the age of six.
