I'm not getting much blogging done. I am still living/sleeping in the Great Room to keep Hero company, and off the stairs. So, all my cables, cords, recharges, etc are still living upstairs. If I go up to retrieve any of them, Hero tries to follow.... he was caught climbing OVER the barricade we created at the base of the stairs, so I stay put down here now. Soon, I think we will return to my room, and start working his leg muscles a bit more.
Hero progressed rapidly at first, to be expected, then slowed down progress and plateaued there for awhile. He was lifting the base of his tail again, starting to run indoors and turn happy circles. He has remained a bit cautious outside, where our yard is still ice crusted snow. I was still cathing him for 400-800 ml two to three times/day. The vet had stopped the bathanechol at about ten days.
I saw Hero lift his leg a bit yesterday - the first time in a couple of weeks. I also put him back on the bathanechol to see if his bladder residuals after going outside would improve on the drug. Last night and today, I only got 200 ml residuals! It appears that Hero is able to voluntarily pee more outside, giving me hope that intermittent dog caths (it takes a 22" long catheter to do the deed for Hero - the longest human one I can find is 16" to give you a point of reference) may not be a permanent fixture in our lives.
Tonight, Hero attempted to put his front feet on the table. He very quickly yelped and went back down. He is partaking in doggie play for the first time tonight, and is acting much much happier. He is also back on his home cooked chicken/brown rice/green beans food - it is fixing his gut right up!
I finished Hero's sweater - it does a great job of keeping his shaved swath down his back warm despite the single digit (Fahrenheit) temps. I loved the chaos cables, but I added far too much ease into the sweater, so it hangs off his underside.... next time, I know to actually follow the measurements I take! LOL Photos to follow soon - promise not to laugh. Hero has his pride, you know.
Off to SPA in Freeport, ME this weekend. Last year was my first venture at SPA, and I stayed pretty much under the radar. This year, I really want to put some faces to names and blogs....if you are going to SPA, too, look me up. I am staying at the HGI, from Friday through Sunday checkout time! I'm really looking forward to this weekend - my traveling companion & I are signed up for the Early Bird specials at the manicure/pedicure spot, and for massages on Saturday. This will be my first pedicure ever.... I hear they are marvelous!
